Spring is Here

Sedum NeonI drove my car today with the windows down. The weather was in the 70s. I heard crickets outside, and I saw a frog. Last week we had two deer in our yard. There are bradford pears and pink cherry trees blooming all over town. Leaves from my tulips are starting to peek through my pansies. I think Spring is here!

We still don’t have any leaves showing up on our trees in our yard, but I did have one bush return from the summer - called Sedum Neon. It’s the one in the entry photo. I’m so excited for Spring because I’ll finally get to see if anything in my yard will bloom. We have a bunch of azaleas, but I’m not sure if they will flower. I planted a couple caladiums, but I got frustrated when I realized they weren’t perenials. All that work and they won’t even come back next year? Sheesh. And I don’t know if I can plant anything over the bulbs, like I did with my tulips/pansies. In the meantime, it’s just an empty-looking bed until they bloom in the Summer.

I am seriously craving a pink tree. Or maybe white. I’d love something tall and flowery back by the creek. I think a magnolia would be great too. And definately more flowers - dahlias and mums are my favorites, but they need sunlight. Maybe I can put them in pots on my porch. And maybe I can do the same with a tomato plant, and a pepper plant, and a strawberry plant. Can you tell I’m excited about the Spring?

And I definately need to check out Euonymus, which are pretty in the fall and grow in shade. And forsythias which are beautiful in the Spring.

I have 2 forsythias in pots ready for a home in Atlanta. The pink trees you are seeing might be redbud trees. Our plum tree started blooming this week, and the cherry trees (white and pink) have not begun to bloom in NC. Maybe after you remove some of the scrub trees and damaged trees, you’ll have sunlight for planting some new ones.
