Cowpoke Quilt

May 24th, 2006 by sallad

Thursday night, before I headed off to Texas for my cousin’s wedding, I quickly finished a quilted project that I’ve been working on for a couple months. Most of the reason this quilt has taken so long is that I get frustrated with all the mistakes. I kept repeating my mantra: The baby is just going to throw up on it anyway. Still, it was neat to see them actually use it while I was there.

This is the first quilt that I actually ever finished, but it was sloppy. Next time, I will take Thomas’ mom’s advice and quilt it diagonally rather than with patterns. I tried to do little squares and criscrosses to match the cowboy theme and to disguise my corners that weren’t matched up too well. I also totally cheated on the border and made up the sewing technique as I went along. Next time I will be sure to use thread that will blend in more and learn an actual stitch technique for binding.

Other than that, I posted a couple photos from Thomas’ birthday last Saturday. After the wedding, my family took him out for surprise dessert and gave him a gag gift of a doo-rag for his new motorcycle, and a portable picnic kit made from the leftover plastic dishes from the rehersal dinner the night before.

You’ve made my day with your cow print quilts….Is it possible to get the design??? I love cows (and cowboys *wink wink*) I have 365 (one for each day of the year) I dress them up on special occasions - like my day off and Sundays! Looking forward to seeing more cow related articles on your site!

he’s only puked on it once so far, and I would have to be a quilter myself to notice any defects. We all love it, and I think you’ve made Brandi go from an airplane to a cowboy theme for his bedding.

The quilt is precious. Whatever mistakes you made went unnoticed. We perfectionists tend to be very hard on ourselves. You did good!

[...] One of my unofficial New Year’s Resolutions this year is to be craftier - hopefully completing one quilted bag, and one of the quilts I started a while back. And it would be nice to actually have crafts to work on when I go to Craft Night too. I don’t think I’ve touched my sewing machine since finishing Will’s baby quilt last May. [...]
