Caterpillar Cafe

Swallowtail Caterpillars on ParsleyI have a few plants on my back porch, one of which is a parsley plant. It is small, but alive, and I have kept it alive for almost a year. Well, at least, I used to have a parsley plant.

Today, when I checked on it, I noticed that it is now the hip hangout for Swallowtail caterpillars - the new Caterpillar Cafe. There were nine Swallowtail caterpillars on the branches, and barely any leaves left.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

What a great shot. I know you hated to lose the parsley leaves, but think what a great service you did for the butterfly world. I’ve never seen swallowtail caterpillars, but they are really pretty. The eggs must have been very close by.

Shame about your parsley! But what an awesome name: the Caterpillar Cafe. Tre chic.

my mom had a similar experience last year. she discovered that some people will plant extra parsley to “sacrifice” to caterpillars because they like the resulting butterflies!
