First Day in Galapagos

May 9th, 2007 by Sallad

So back to the honeymoon photos… After Otavalo, Thomas and I headed to the Galapagos. The tour guides met us at the airport, and wisked us off to our first excursion - the highlands of Santa Cruz. We were taken to a giant sinkhole. Honestly, I really don’t remember much about it since I was taking photos of all the finches — little did I know that these would be as common as pigeons around our hotel.

Then we went to see the Giant Tortoises. We only saw a handful, but they’re huge. My favorite fact I learned about them was that George Lucas based the design of E.T. after their faces. I can sort of see it.

Finally, they took us to our hotel, the Finch Bay Eco Hotel. It’s actually on across a little bay and we had to take a water taxi across. The hotel was very pretty with beach access. The rooms were very comfortable and each had a hammock out on the patio, which was really relaxing.

I’ve added these and some others from the first day to our Flickr Group:
