Happy Father’s Day
Last night, Thomas and I were sitting around talking about Great Dad Things. I thought I’d post some of my examples to celebrate Father’s Day…
Note: These all get the My Memories Disclaimer - this is how I remember them.
1. Guys weren’t allowed at Girl Scout camp, not even Dads. Though, during one of my trips to Girl Scout camp, my Dad camped at a campground up the river, and canoed in just to teach my troop how to set up campsites. I particularly remember learning to fold sleeping bags properly. Then he headed back out after the lesson.
2. When I needed homework help, I knew to go to Mom for Language Arts, and Dad for math. The problem is that Dad wouldn’t settle for the way we were being taught to solve math problems in our text book. Instead of looking up the proper formula, he’d try to teach me short cuts, or often how to derive the formula from scratch so I wouldn’t have to memorize it.
3. I had the coolest treehouse while I was growing up. It was as high as the roof of our house, it was big enough to hold my toy stove and a table with chairs, it had a roof on it so I was safe from sun and rain, and it was built with love and meticulous plans by my grandfather and Dad. I spent a lot of time playing house in it.
4. Dad has a great sense of humor and is always able to provide a horribly, cheesy joke, at random times. My all-time favorite, which we would use over and over, is: You’re pretty strong…but odor isn’t everything. And just so you know, Thomas laughs at the jokes just to kiss up.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Thank you for coaching my soccer and softball teams, fixing and upgrading my house, teaching me to ride a bike, and teaching me to drive my VW Bus. The photo in this entry is from our wedding - during the Father/Daughter dance.
P.S. The A/C is still broken, if you want to come down anytime soon, Dad. :) Just kidding…

What wonderful memories you have of your Father..
Thank you for reminding me of some of the fun we had together over the years. I am really fortunate to have two wonderful children like you and Dane, and am now blessed with the addition of Thomas (especially when he laughs at my jokes). But in fairness to Thomas, haven’t you also laughed at my jokes for the same reason? :)
I look forward to many wonderful times with the three of you in the future.
