Treasures from the Past
Thomas and I have been working on clearing out clutter, and today I found some really neat treasures. I found a little paper bag mixed in with my stuff that was filled with a few items that I’m guessing belonged to my great-grandmother.
Though I never met her, I do wear her wedding ring as my wedding ring, and have her china in my china cabinet. It may sound silly, but those two very important things make me feel close to her, so when I got to see what some more of her items were, it was really neat.
First, in the bag was her Bird and Fishing license from 1955. So I guess Grandpa’s love of fly-fishing was passed down. It states her age (65, that means she was born in 1887) and has some facts about what she looked like. Only 5′4? Maybe that’s where I got my short height from. I’m 5′6 and much shorter than the rest of my family. I like how she added in the S to make He into She.
Next, I found a pink hair net. I assume this was used to keep her hair neat when she slept. It’s very soft instead of the rough plastic feel I would have imagined.
And then there were some very cool handkerchiefs. If my parents don’t want these back, I will definately keep them, though I’m not sure what I’d do with them yet.
And finally, there was this item. I have no clue what it is - it’s soft mesh, and sewn in pleats on the sides, and stitched together in the middle. Any guesses?

What a neat find. I have no idea of how they got to your house, but you are certainly welcome to keep the items. I believe the date of the license (1955) is several years before Grandpa Inglott died. After he died, she moved to Houston to be closer to our family. I will have to look up the dates to be certain when she moved. You are probably right on the hair net. Grandma Inglott was a beautician and always had her hair nicely fixed. The handkerchiefs are really pretty. I’m sure you can find some artsy way to use or display them.
