V, W, X, Y, and Z

V is for Volunteering
When I lived in Raleigh, I volunteered with a community service organization called the Raleigh Jaycees. I loved volunteering with them - some of my favorite projects were working in the Haunted House, setting up the Brookhill Steeplechase, and building houses with Habitat for Humanity. I even helped organize a few small projects like an alcohol education class. I really miss being in a volunteer organization - I should check out the local Jaycee organization. Thomas and I have done some volunteering with our church at the Pride Festival and answering phones an Georgia Public Broadcasting telethon. I would also love to volunteer with a Girl Scout troup some day.

W is for Works in Progress
I have so many half completed sewing projects. And I have a ton of ideas for projects I haven’t even started. Here’s a list of some of the ones I’ve had trouble finishing.

X is for Xmas
Last year was the first year that I did not celebrate Xmas with my family - Thomas and I went to Sweden to see his family instead. Now that we’re married, I’m sure we’ll get into an every other year routine with our families. As a kid, we always went to Texas to be with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. That was a lot of fun. One memory that stands out is the year that I got a microscope for Christmas and looked at blood up close. I passed out when I saw it. I’ve never been one for the sight of blood.

Y is for Yardwork
We spent yesterday doing yardwork. I weeded the flowerbed and mowed and Thomas collected sticks and cut back the ivy. We have a gorgeous backyard with tall trees, wildlife, and a creek, but it is a pain to keep maintained. All in all, we live on 1.3 acres, but probably a half of that is left as natural woods. When we got our house, we thought we wouldn’t mind yardwork, but we quickly learned we’d rather spend our weekends doing other things. I’m guessing our next house will probably have a smaller yard, but I hope we still have as many birds.

Z is for Zzzzzz
I am a night person. Usually, I will fall asleep pretty fast unless I have a lot on my mind. Unfortuantely for Thomas, I like to unload all my worries when I’m laying in bed, usually as he’s falling asleep. Most of the time, I will remember a lot of details from my dreams. I can easily fall asleep in a car (as a passenger), on a plane, and during late movies.

And now you know my ABCs, next time won’t you sing with me…

I love those quilts. Is the log cabin already quilted? If not sandwiched ,do so and bast it good and start tying or quilting it after that comes the binding. Use 2 1/4 to “-2 1/5″ straight stips and fold it and press. Sew the binding to the Quilt with 1/4″ seam from the front with the raw edges to the side. Turn the folded side towards the back and slipstitch it to the back.

The sushi one is very interesting, nice as a tabletopper.

The quilts are beautiful! Quilting is something I don’t have the patience for, otherwise I’d do it in a heartbeat just to have all those fabulous quilts!

I got a microscope for Christmas one year, too…but the sight of blood through it just intrigued me. Now I look through a microscope for a living!
