Fun Monday: Story of My House
On Fun Monday this week, Kitten’s Homeschool asked for the history of our houses and streets.
Our house was built in the 70s and since we’re far from being the first owner, I don’t have any great histories to share. The previous owner actually lives nearby. He bought the house for his parents to be near their grandkids; however, they missed Myrtle Beach and went back home after only 6 months. There are some stories I would love to know, such as why there are many locks on the back of one of the bedroom doors, or why glass beads are spread all over the yard, or what caused the giant hole in the front yard, or where the big oil drum stashed across the creek came from. Ahh, oh well.
We chose this house because it reminds us of a treehouse. All of the houses in the neighborhood are on an acre or more of land and surrounded by trees. We have a creek running through our backyard and occasionally see deer, rabbits, and turtles. Perfect for us nature-lovers. We’ve had to do some fixing up (thanks for the help, Dad!), and it’s not a social neighborhood, but it’s been great host all of our guests, and we love birdwatching from our decks.
And since I love showing off photos of our house, here are some from over the years. (Note: Some have been in previous Fun Mondays.)
And as a comparison, this is what we started with…

Oh I could easily get lost in those woods and NOT want to get out of them….truly LOVELY!!!!
Very pretty.Dallas.
i agree with Anni. so pretty. hm…. maybe a little jealous
Very pretty home & yard! love the view!
just wow
Nice home!
Maybe I can help with the “hole in the yard” situation. We had a huge hole develop over time in the back yard of my childhood home in Stone Mountain (probably built in 1981-82). It turned out that at the time, in GA, builders could bury their excess junk (wood, nails, sheet rock, etc) under the ground (this has since become illegal). Over time, it caused the land to slip and break away from the top soil- especially if you were on a hill. For us, this generated a huge hole- deep enough to come to your head of you stood in it. Maybe this scenario is what caused your hole.
I’m so in love with your house. That’s the kind of house David and I want to have. I love the tree house feel. Houses with history and mysteries are fun. It’s hard to find a house like that in Raleigh!
You have a lovely home. The view is really goreous, and I love the treed backyard.
I’m giggling over your finding little glass beads in the yard.
When we moved into this house and tilled up the garden area - we found TONS of little green army men.
your place looks beautiful.
I am in love with your home!!!!!! Beautiful house and the woods…..just heavenly. :D
Yours is one of my favorite houses - and I love the seclusion of your spot! Something tells me the inside is very roomy and open!
This is one thing I love about Atlanta: we have so many trees!
What the heck is up with glass beads in your yard? That just sounds like such a random thing to throw in your yard. How funny!
Absolutely beautiful!!
I remember seeing pictures before I think you live in a beautiful area all that land and surrounded by woods. You house looks fantastic I love it.
Beautiful house!
Oh my goodness! That does look like a treehouse! I absolutely love it. Your street doesn’t even look like it’s in a neighborhood. This is the way all neighborhoods should be built.
It totally reminds me of a treehouse too! It looks like a great place to unwind and get in touch with nature. :)
I remember your house from other fun Mondays. It is truly beautiful and you have done well with the yard. We have a few similar houses not far from us. One is done in brown wood siding and has a pond beside it. Thank you for sharing again.
Hi Dallas!
What a lovely home!
I was just over at Peachyhollow and saw your comment on one of the November posts on Paige! I’m the person that was taking pictures of Blythe. Isn’t it funny how it’s such a small world that we would randomly meet at a craft show and both happen to read Peachyhollow?
In the event that you’re curious, here are the pictures from that day.
