Fun Monday: My Bucket List
I took a break from Fun Monday for a while, but I’m back this week with Tiggerlane’s request:
Have you heard of The Bucket List? Well, that’s what I want from you! Make a list of things you want to do before you die. It must be at least five items - and you can make it as long as you desire. Photos are optional. And let’s hear about some of the wackiest, most bizarre to-do’s on your Bucket List!
I’m not sure about wacky or bizarre, but here’s my list of Things I Want to Do During My Life (Before You Die sounds so depressing):
- Have children - I really want to have children when the time is right. I’m looking forward to all parts - giving birth, raising the child, watching as they experience the world, etc… Besides, Thomas and I were cute babies. Don’t you think we’ll have cute kids?
- Be a Girl Scout Leader - I almost signed up to do this last year, but then we considered moving overseas and I backed out. Girl Scouts was such a wonderful experience to me that I want to share it with other young girls. This photo shows me in some ceremony - it was the only photo I could find with me in my uniform.
- Visit all 7 continents - I’m on my way - I’ve been to four so far. Here’s my map where I keep track. Luckily I found a husband who loves to travel to new places as much as I do.
- Visit all 50 states - Again, I’m doing pretty well on this one. I was lucky to have a family that traveled a lot. Here’s my USA map of places I’ve visited.
- Go to BlogHer - BlogHer is a conference for women bloggers. This really isn’t as high on my list as the others, but it’s something that I would love to do this year if I don’t wimp out. I can be shy sometimes, so I’ll probably only go if I can find someone else who wants to go with me.
- Take Thomas to the Rocky Mountains - My family went on a couple of really special vacations to the Rocky Mountains and I would love to take Thomas there. My family stayed at a lodge and went horse camping. That would be cool, but I would also love to see Yellowstone again, especially now that I’m interested in nature photography.
- Paint My Bus Again - When I was in high school, my VW Bus had all kinds of funky patterns on it, and I miss them. I had the bus repainted in college to a simple light blue to dark blue fade, but I miss and the honks and waves I got when my bus was covered in flowers, fish, rainbows, etc. I’m not ready to paint it yet, but some day…
- Go to the High Country Bus Festival - This VW Bus festival used to be one of my favorites, where after a long weekend of camping, we’d line up all the buses and drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The last one I went to had over 100 buses. We haven’t been to any campouts since we’ve moved from Indiana and I miss them. Maybe we can go to this one this year - Boone, NC is only 5 hours away. That’s my bus in the back.
I’m sure there are more. I kept coming up with things as I wrote this list, but I’ll stop with the 8 items above. The thing I found most interesting about this exercise is that I remember a few things that were on my list in the past that really aren’t on there anymore, such as:
- Hike the Appalachian Trail
- Work for a non-profit in a third world country
- Live in a foreign country
So what’s on your list of Things to Do During Your Life?

Fantastic list. Love the girl scout picture, it brings back all sorts of memories. :)
Love the list! Your bus is awesome all painted :-)
I may do this list, too…
i didnt put having children on my list, i figured that was just a part of life. but good for you..
Wow. I have not seen a baby bus in years. Nice post.
You have a great list and I think you should be able to attain them. :) I had to giggle that you haven’t visited neighboring state but you’ve been overseas. :) You did the same thing to poor Illinois (you’ve never been to Chicago?).
What an awesome bus! How fun to have it that long and to paint it.
As for being a GS leader, I have to say it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Good for you for wanting to give back as well.
I’ve never heard of the Bus Fair. How fun that looks!
I want to see all 50 states too.
I also had never heard of the bus fair! That looks like such fun.
Terrific job.
I totally think you should come to BlogHer! (And I’m not just saying that because I’m BlogHer’s event organizer!) (Okay, well, maybe I am, but still! Come!) :)
I love your bus! I used to drive my parent’s VW bus when I was in high school. Memories.
Yes I do think you’ll have some cute little ones! You have a inspirational list there!
You have done a lot of travelling. Your bus is great and must be so much fun. You have a great list and I get the feeling you will you will be ticking them off!
lovely list!
(and i want to go to blogher too!)
Great list. For what it is worth, I think your babies would be adorable.
Yes you should be a Girl Scout leader! Go ahead, make the world a better place:o) I see you have the AT on your list, too.
Your VW bus is so adorable!
I almost signed up to be a Girl Scout leader a few years ago. Unfortunately the troop didn’t get enough girls to sign up and it never took off.
Great list! Hope you get to do all of your traveling wishes!! My parents had 2 VW vans. We traveled from the midwest to California and on up the west coast and the northern states to Minnesota. Great memory. Although our vans weren’t nearly as cool as your painted one!
You will definitely make cute kids…you were adorable!! Yeah for girl scout leaders…I am one myself!!
Great list!! I hope you get to achieve them all!!
Having kids is the BEST thing in the world - totally changed my life. And the bus? CLASSIC! I want to go to BlogHer, too - but never have the time. Maybe next year? Thanks for participating!
You have a VW bus!!??!! You have to be the coolest person ever! Great list! Thank you for sharing it.

Oh that bus looks so fun and the Bus Festival sounds like it would be fun too! A great list, and especially nice to see having children on there. I can say that because children totally changed my life!
You should definitely try children. :)
I am still thinking about BlogHer. I keep checking on plane tickets, but so far they’re outrageous.
You and your VW bus are most entertaining.
I enjoyed being a Campfire Girls leader when my eldest was young. Yes — you should do that. CG and GS need good leaders.
A bucket list, what a great idea! I want to see that movie.
You two will make wonderful parents when you are ready (: And it’s funny you mentioned Girl Scout leader, because I was looking into becoming involved with the Girl Scouts not too long ago. I can’t believe how many states you’ve been to already! I’m going to start calling you Traveling Dallas (; I would love to go to BlogHer with you…I’m not sure if my “blog” counts -further motivation to start putting mine together (:
