My Weekend

February 12th, 2008 by sallad

I got an email from my Mom last night saying, “I missed hearing about your weekend yesterday on your blog. Maybe it’s posted now.” Yay, Mom is my biggest fan. Sorry I slacked on my blog, but I’ve been getting over some kind of sinus thing and haven’t been feeling bloggy. I’m better now, so here’s what I was up to this weekend.

Friday night, Thomas and I went out for Vietnamese food and bubble drinks. Those are one of my favorite treats. I first learned about them in Bloomington, where they made them with juice. Here, they’re like fruit smoothies, but they’re still good. They’re called bubble drinks because they put tapioca balls in them. It’s kind of like drinking tadpoles through really big straws.

Afterward, we went to see Juno. (Spoiler: Skip to the next paragraph if you don’t want to know the ending.) At first, I liked the movie, but after a while, I had a issue with it. The movie shows a teen getting pregnant and giving the baby up for adoption, and the only trouble it seemed to give her was that she gained a little weight. The movie had all happy endings, and the teen’s life went back to normal just as if she never got pregnant. I’m not saying that it couldn’t happen, but I don’t really agree with movies making teen pregnancy look like such a walk in the park, especially after spending a year on a documentary about teen mothers (no, I wasn’t teen mother, just a documentary student).

Saturday morning, Thomas and I went out for breakfast before he headed off to Florida for his friend’s wedding. Honestly, I can’t remember what I did the rest of that day, but Saturday night, I slept on the couch and watched a marathon of Jon and Kate Plus Eight. I don’t know why either because each episode is just a bunch of screaming kids and arguing parents.

I got up on Sunday morning and went birding with some folks from the local Audubon society. It was a lot of fun and very educational to go out with real birders. I’m so impressed on how they identify birds by just their sounds, and I learned about some great classes, birding sites, and equipment to check out. I took a few photos, but none really came out that well. I was excited that I finally got to see a red-headed woodpecker.

That night, I went over to Jane’s house to work on making some placemats. Since we’ve both got the Amy Butler sewing book recently, we picked out a project that we could both attempt at the same time and help each other. I was able to almost complete one placemat before I ran out of thread. I really like how it’s turning out, but I think I’m going to change the thread color that shows on the outside to black.

Thomas got back on Monday night, and was exhausted after his 9-hour motorcycle ride, and that’s about it. I’m behind on laundry, dishes, and answering emails, but it was a good weekend.

I see what you mean about Juno, but I just tried to take it for face value. It made me cry.

I cried throughout Juno too. But then again, I cry in almost every movie I see. I’m a big sap.

I am probably a tie for being your #1 fan. I just don’t alway comment.

That Jon and Kate Plus Eight show can suck you right in. Pretty soon you’re watching in and thinking “why am I watching this” but you just keep on watching!

Hmmmm, I can’t get into the Jon and Kate Plus Eight show. It gives me a headache. Too much screaming. :-) But if a sappy, horrible Lifetime movie comes on, my rear is permanently glued to the couch.

I keep TLC on alot while sewing, and the quality rarely matters. But the Jon and Kate Plus Eight show always gets changed immediately! Your description is right on, and if I take a few minutes to change it I find that I feel stressed just listening to it.
