My First Fabric Postcard
I’m posting this, only because I don’t think my swap partner has found my blog for this Fabric Postcard Swap. I don’t know her blog address, but if you are my swap partner and have been lurking…you might want to skip this post if you want a surprise.
I have almost finished my fabric postcard. I was inspired by this photo of a pink tree on the IU campus. They have a gorgeous spring there, and these trees seemed to mark the start of it.
I used some blue fabric scraps to look like the sky and aligned it to represent the sun shining down. The tree branches are embroidered and the flowers are buttons and sequins.
I’ve got a layer of thick interfacing which the embroidery thread went through, and then there’s another thinner layer to hide my knots and stitches. The background is currently plain cream and I’m having a hard time bringing myself to write on it.
I used a satin stitch on my sewing machine to do the border. Since I no longer have the manual for my machine, it took quite a few tries to figure out what those “other” settings on my machine do, but I finally found the settings I wanted. I even took a photo to refer back to later.
I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out, and I was excited to make something without using a pattern.
