Happy Earth Day!
April 22nd, 2008 by Sallad
I thought about doing a post today listing out what Thomas and I do to be Green, but as I started to think about it, I realized we really don’t do that much. I mean we recycle bottles and have a few compact florescent light bulbs, but other than that, I love my long hot showers, I drive over an hour every day, and I leave my computer on even when I’m asleep or not home. So, I’m curious what green habits do you have and can share. Any ideas that maybe we can adopt?

You already use reusable grocery bags, right? (I think I remember you saying that in a post.) Other than that two of the easiest things I’ve done recently were switching to vegetable based soaps and detergents and starting a compost bin.

We use a compost bin, canvas bags for going to the market another thing we did was since we drive a lot we just bought a new hybrid. I also use cleaning products that are considered “green”, we use the florescent lights and recycle as well.
I have started using my own bags when I go grocery shopping. I light of my daughter’s recent skin problems (and mine) I’ve started using dye/perfume free cleaning supplies that are biodegradable and made from plant stuff. I guess that counts as green? It was mostly a health concern for us though.

We only eat organic fruits, vegetables and meats. We’ve changed out all of our lightbulbs at home to the “green” version (that contains mercury but whatever), we are more careful with how we use our water especially after going through a drought. We’re going to start switching out all of our cleaning products to “green” ones.

I love your squirrel! And all your birds, it IS amazing that we have the same birds. :)
Let’s see, green, well we have flourescents and I dunno if this counts but we buy frozen veggies and things in bags rather than cans (less trash), energy saver washer, stove, etc. And I make things from old clothes like quilts, tripod bags, etc. . .

We quit buying paper plates. And cut in half our paper towel usage. Does that count?

I was going to mention reusable grocery bags and using cloth napkins instead of paper.
How about opting out of junk mail/catalogs and reusing scrap paper for printing or note-taking?
