Unidentified Garden Objects
Anyone know what these are?
The pink flowers are randomly growing out by our creek. They’re on a a very tall stem with no other flowers around them. The whole group of them is about the size of my fist.
Edit: I think Natalie is right and this is a Dianthus, Sweet William - the tall variety. I wonder how this single bunch got to the middle of my backyard?
The plant is growing in my flower bed where my parents planted a bunch of Hostas and Solomon’s seal. I’m not sure if this is something they planted, or a weed that found it’s way over. It’s almost knee high.
Edit: Mom confirmed on Flickr that this a weed, so it’s going to get weeded. I really liked the leaves on it, but it looks a little gangly.

That first plant looks very similar to a Garden Phlox, but this plant usually blooms in July in Michigan, so I’m not sure if it’s the same plant, unless your growing seasons are much different than Michigan’s.

The 1st one may be a variety of phlox. Not sure about the 2nd one.
Oh, I was going to guess that the first one is a dianthus, Sweet William… it sure looks like that.
Mom thinks the first one is a dianthus. I think the second one is a weed. I don’t think it is anything we planted.
First one is Sweet William (aka dianthus). I have a pink and white variety planted in my yard. The tag said it was an annual I thought, but mine has come back for 3 years now.
Second one is a weedy tree I think. Pull it now while you can.
