Gorski and Amber’s Wedding

June 2nd, 2008 by sallad

Due to extreme weekend-napping, I couldn’t fall asleep last night. Instead, I repotted some plants, matched fabric for an upcoming quilt, and surfed the web. I finally fell asleep at 4AM and I’m exhausted now. But, Gorski and Amber got back from their honeymoon, and I wanted to quickly get their wedding photos online for them.  I’m not very impressed with my shots, but it was a neat wedding.

The wedding was an Eastern Orthodox ceremony in a very ornate church with lots of fancy paintings of Saints. There was more standing and singing than I’ve seen before, and some neat traditions, like wearing, and switching crowns linked to each other.

The reception was in downtown Raleigh at Artspace, a multi-artist art gallery. They used to hold Art Walks where they would serve wine and open up the galleries at night. The artwork on the walls made for easy decorating – it was a great location.

The Reception

The bride and groom danced their first dance, as well as a polka. Kids played Limbo. We drank beer from a local brewery, and the groom’s home-brewed champagne. The cake was delicious.

I saw a lot of old friends at the wedding. Gorski and I went to high school together, so I saw several guys I hung out with then, and a few others from later years in Raleigh. This was part of my main group of friends in high school.

The day before, I was able to attend the Rehearsal Dinner for bit. It was a Pig Pickin’ at Umstead Park. That’s North Carolina’s version of barbecue – roast a pig and then pull the meat off and cover it with vinegar. It wasn’t bad, but it’s not comparable to Texas barbecue (sweet red sauce on beef ribs). I showed up late to the dinner, but I made it in time for some frisbee.

I was not real pleased with my photography at this wedding, but I had a great time as a guest. Thomas and I have posted our photos online:

Whadya mean, doesn’t compare to Texas barbeque? I guess I agree – I think NC’s is better. ;) But don’t forget, they invented fire (and beef) in Kansas City, or so my friend Charity tells me when she downplays all other barbeque options.
