Posting Old Photos

June 21st, 2008 by sallad

I finally finished editing the rest of the photos from Memorial Day Weekend in Raleigh - that’s the hard part of taking so many photos. The post processing takes a while, and if I keep taking more photos, it just adds up. Now it’s hard to write about an event that happened almost a month ago.

Clover in the car
Clover is a horrible car rider. She stresses out - pacing and panting, and whenever we stop, she tries to hide under the steering wheel.

Other than the wedding and family time for Thomas’ side, I got to spend some quality time with my brother. He took Thomas and I out to meet his friends and we wandered Franklin Street - the main drag along my college campus. I was amazed at how much has changed, but I had a great time. I even got up and danced at one of the clubs we went to - that’s unheard of.

Brothers
Thomas and his big brother, Michael - aren’t they sweet?

Throughout that weekend, I kept missing the Raleigh area. I lived there for 8 years - finished high school, went to college, lived life fully in my early 20s, and met Thomas. I’ve now been away for about 5 years, and I was surprised that I’ve finally passed that point of “I’ve got to get away.” I’m okay with not being there now, but I can definately say that it’s home…comfortable.

Grilling
Thomas’ brother-in-law, Jeremy manned the grill

I never blogged about Thomas’ birthday presents. I tried hard to get him something not on his wishlist, but I ran into all kinds of kinks. First, I tried a Google beanbag chair, but he ended up getting it for free with his employee discount. Then, I tried a Wii Fit, but it turns out that our Wii sync button is jammed, so we can’t hook up the Fit. Finally, I got him a birding scope, but I got the wrong model. Luckily, we were able to exchange it for the right one.

Unhappy
I know I shouldn’t take photos of kids when they’re tantruming, but look at that bottom lip sticking out. Hehe..

I still haven’t figured out how to fit in visiting friends and having playtime in addition to visiting both of our families there.  I’d love to visit some of my favorite spots - UNC’s campus, the farmer’s market, the Rose Garden, finish geocaches I never solved, etc.  I’m sure we’ll be there again sometime this year, and hopefully we can make time to catch up with our friends.  Our trips always feel so rushed.

Goofy Uncle Thomas
Baby doll socks make great elf ears.

Overall, it was a wonderful trip, even if it went by too fast.  I’ve posted the rest of the photos on Flickr - they’re mixed in with the shots from this trip that I posted in early June.

I know what you mean by juggling when going back “home”. I have to do separate trips to visit parents in SC. And I didn’t meet with friends for the longest time. This last trip I finally met up with an old high school friend - hadn’t seen her in 10 years! Meeting at that coffee shop and talking to her about classmates felt so different. I don’t know how to juggle seeing everyone. I haven’t mastered it yet.

    Aw, poor little Clover!

Nah, I actually love tantrum pictures. I take them of my daughter to remind myself (and her when she’s older) that she wasn’t always a perfect kid.
