Kitchens
While visiting Mama C, we spent a lot of time in the kitchen. It always seems to be the central location where people gather at her house.
Whether we’re eating…

Mama C’s Chicken and Dumplins
I have great memories from our kitchen growing up too - laughing at dinner till I cried, stirring my ice cream until it was soup, climbing on the cabinets to sneak sprinkles, seeing if I could melt crayons in our giant microwave, watching the lizard that lived on our window eat flys, talking on the phone with the long spiral cord, listening to the pressure cooker rattle, and so on.
Right now, Thomas and I eat out a lot, and we really don’t spend much time in our kitchen. I hope, though, that someday, we will have a kitchen like Mama C’s where people come together, and like my childhood home where so many memories were created.
Do you have any special kitchen memories?

Your photos really capture the feel of the visit. Lovely. Our kitchen was always where I told Mom about my day, my life, while I helped with dinner. One day I really want a big kitchen with space for everyone to gather. And a big wood table in it…

Oh, I LOVE her table and chairs. I bet they’re her original set, right? Awesome.
We had an old country kitchen when I was growing up. The woodstove was the best thing. I can still smell it if I try.

Our kitchen is where everything happened in our house. I remember spending countless hours at our table talking about our family history, talking on the phone, laughing until it hurt or helping my Dad cook dinner and talking about my day. Ah yes the memories a kitchen holds. I now have a kitchen that everyone gathers in, my daughters friends are always in the kitchen wanting to learn how to cook or just tell me about their day and I LOVE it I would not want it any other way!
This is (another) lovely post. I love your recollections, and I love the the obvious affection that you have for Mama C. I know kitchens matter… they can be the best places, where families gather.
Same with my Grandma….
It always seemed like the kitchen was just the center of the house. Of course, she was always in there so if you wanted to talk with her, you HAD to be in the kitchen.
Great memories…

I love her table! It reminds me of my great-grandmother’s. Too bad none of us have that kind anymore. I had one of my GG’s tables when I first got a place but at 18 I didn’t see it’s value and it’s long gone. :(

Again, I LOVE Mama C!!!!!!
I love this post so much!
I swear I ate chicken and dumplings and played Rummikub at a table exactly like that one at my great grandma’s house.
So fun!
