Weekend Without Thomas

July 15th, 2008 by sallad

Thomas was out of town this past weekend, so I was able to do whatever I wanted. Woo hoo! Party!  Actually, I do whatever I want anyway — just don’t tell him that. :) The house was quiet and lonely, so in addition to sleeping in and staying up way too late, I made sure to meet up with some friends. I met Anna and Jane for dinner and dessert in Decatur.

That photo came out a bit flashtastic, but I like it. It was fun to meet up with them since they’re both just starting down new life paths - exciting times. The only other photo I saved from that outing was a cool car that we saw. I’m not sure what kind or how old it was, but the owner seemed antsy with people coming up and taking photos of it.  Oh well.

Sunday, I met up with Catherine in Midtown. We walked around a bit looking for a place that was actually open for lunch. Finally we found a place, but they had a limited menu due to construction. Still, a good time was had. I rode the MARTA (the above ground subway) down to see her. MARTA is known for fussing at people with cameras, but I snapped a few shots anyway from the train and in the station.

Other than that, it rained a lot this weekend. I love the colors of my neighborhood after it rains. It has a soft sea-foamy-green hue and a clean, fresh smell.  This is looking down the street outside my house.

It was the perfect weather to snuggle under the covers and read.  I’m just about done with another Chris Bohjalian book.  Here’s a random fact about me — if Thomas is out of town on a weekend, I will almost always sleep on the living room couch.  Ours isn’t particular comfortable, but the bed just seems too big.

That’s about it for my weekend.  Oh yeah, I saw a deer in my backyard this morning.  The deer and the rest of the photos I took but didn’t post are in Flickr:

The photo of that old Buick is absolutely professional! Glad to see you got out to take some great photos on such a rainy weekend.

Alissa - I’m reading Buffalo Soldier. My favorite of his has been Midwives. A Double Bind has a really interesting twist at the end, but I didn’t like it that much until I finished it.

Why does MARTA not like people with cameras?

Dotty - It’s probably related to (or at least along the same lines as) a subway photography ban that was proposed in NY a few years ago in the name of fighting trrrsm (not a typo). It was shot down shortly after, though, in the name of common sense.

I guess officials still shudder at the sight of cameras for some reason, though… *shrug*
